In 1973 the DG-100 was the first sailplane produced by Glaser Dirks (now DG Flugzeugbau GmbH) and was based on the Akaflieg Darmstadt D-38 which Wilhelm Dirks designed before forming Glaser- Dirks Flugzeugbau GmbH.The construction is in GRP and has an all flying tailplane. In addition, the DG-100 had Schemmpp-Hirth type tope-surface airbrakes and a divided canopy which was used only on this sailplane and the DG-200. Variants of DG-100, were the DG-100G, The DG-101 and DG-101G have improvements such as a single piece front hinged canopy, , automatic trim, improved crash resistant cockpit and, with the DG-100G and DG-101G, a conventional tailplane with fixed horizontal stabiliser and elevator ("non-all-flying-tail"). The DG-100 Club is an unballasted, fixed gear version with a gross weight of 385 kg / 849 lb

A total of 327 examples of this sailplane were built. 105 of them in were bult in the Glaser Dirks factory and 222 in ELAN in Slovenia, of which 145 are still certified in Germany. Due to the very balanced flight characteristics and good handling the DG-100 is one of the most expensive club class aircraft on the second hand market.
