Glaser Dirks DG-1000 series

The DG-1000 is a brand-new 20m-class training glider developmed from the DG-505 and made its' first flight on 27 July 2000. The fuselage is a strengthened development af the DG-505 with a single sprung mainwheel and an all-new doubletrapezoid plan-view wing. The wings are made of CFRP and A fin water-ballast tank for trimming is an optional installation.

There are currently four versions:

  • DG-1000S is the standard version with 20 m Wingspan. Designed to long cross-country flights and is the classic competition machine.
  • DG-1000S-18/20m is the version with additional wing-tips for the 18 m version.
  • DG-1000S Club has a fixed 18m span and is a cheaper option for clubs. If a subsequent conversion to DG-1000S-18/20m is planned, the correct wing must be ordered
  • DG-1000T with home assist - a 30 horsepower engine with a specially developed propeller.

The engine option is for both spans. The newly developed engine control system "DEI-NT" relieved the pilots largely og the operation of the engine. Simple aerobatics for the 18m version are allowed with and without the engine .

Akaflieg Karlsruhe are currently trying their DG-1000S (D-KAKA) with a retractable jet turbine. This may beseen on their website .

By the end of 2007, 65 sailplanes and 40 turbo engine versions had been manufactured.
