Building the LF 109 Pionyr

The photo of the under carriage shows the skid; which is laminated with 1/32 plywood and carbon filament, epoxy, and taped to a jig the shape of the skid, and cured. The fender is laminated with selastic and fiberglass, and molded over a four inch tire, and trimmed to shape after curing.

Below is a photo of the construction of right wing and the canopy plug on the left nearing its final stage. The plug took more time to fabricate and finish, than it took to build the entire empennage.

I will have the Pionyr finished by our flying season, which will start (for me) some time in April.

The Pionyr is now starting to look like a finished project.  Everything seems to fit and all of the controls respond to the radio command, and all move in the correct direction.  Sometimes it doesn't work that way, and I find out a bit too late.  Am sure that only happens to me!

There is nothing any different in the construction so far, that would make for interesting reading.

The photo in the basement shows a harpsichord in the background, this is a building project that I started over 30 years ago.  It is one of those projects that falls into the category, "I will finish one day".

All that remains on the Pionyr is covering the wings.  The vinyl graphics was done by neighbor, who is in the sign business, and has a computer driven vinyl cutter.  I swapped some stained glass work for the graphics, she was happy enough with the stained glass, to give me all of the graphics I will need for life.  Can't beat that deal.
