Mark,

Do you mean when you are using the hot iron method?

Right, there are two approaches to this - you can wait until the glue is nearly dry, a bit tacky and still a little milky in places and then iron it down. The problem with this is, depending upon the temp, if you have a largish area to glue it can dry at uneven rates but by and large it is very successful.

My preferred method is to let the glue (on both surfaces) dry completely - so no panic or time constraints. Then, when you are ready to glue, take a J cloth or similar and soak it well, wring out the excess and wipe over both glue surfaces to re-wet them again and iron immediately. This gives a really good bond - usually delaminating the ply if you try to pull them apart.

Which ever method you use the most important bit is having some moisture in both glued surfaces. Ironing dry will give you a bond but not a good one.

Try both on test pieces and decide for yourself.

Mark,

Not sure about the use of the heat gun. The idea behind the hot iron is to apply both heat and pressure to both surfaces.

I think perhaps a quiet word with 'wifey'.........................
