l am deep into a beta build of a pilatus b4 in 1/3rd scale, designed by jillies smit and laser kitted by cliff evans, there is a build blog up and running for those interested,l would like to have her ready to go towards the end of summer, but this will depend on time availiable commensurate with earning a crust and staying out of the divorce courts!!!

Well I do not know if Santa came a bit late or a lot early, but a big box appeared in my garage the other evening.
Inside was one F&W ASW 17 with a ceflix 750 up and go DF unit.
6.3 Metres of carbon perfection. I have honestly never owned a better quality model. I have run out of superlatives.
I am lying if I claimed that I was going to "build" this. Throw in some servos and a bit of glue, shake well and it will be done. :D
If anyone wants more information then drop me a PM.

The ASW 17 is such an iconic shape and that looks super cool with the Ceflix jet. You're a lucky boy indeed. Empty pockets now I guess?

I seem to have been repairing models all winter.... still one to go, so I thought I would build something for 2017. This is a lovely little Baudis made Ventus 2c at 1:6 scale. However, another non-build as it is all molded model complete with cockpit tray, so very little to do. It took exactly three days to build and set up. It just needed servos set into the wings and tail with 5min epoxy + micro balloons plus a lot of soldering for the wing looms and connectors. MPX lookalikes used with fixed plug in wing and flying socket in the fuz.

These models seem to be discontinued at Baudis now but I have seen them still in the US. https://www.soaringusa.com/Ventus-2C-3M.html, although a bit pricey there. I picked this kit up second hand from BMFA and am very pleased with the result.

Well done Tomáš that's a very nice looking model and some excellent, graceful flying too.

SF543 Slingsby Type 13 Petrel underway in Canberra

Postby GPL » 01 Apr 2017, 07:23

Recently received (in OZ) the SF543 Slingsby Type 13 Petrel plans from MyHobbyStore. Interestingly, the plans are marked "Slingsby Petrel" and "Slingsby Type 18 Petrel" which is all a bit confusing and surprising (for a UK product  ).

The short laser cut kit arrives next week from Brad at lasercutkits OZ.

All I need to do now is build a new shed, buy a suitable layup bench, find a good launch site (in that order) and the Petrel flies in Canberra. The likely site is Lake George (NSW) or Mount Spring (Spring Range) - both premier Hang Gliding sites in NSW.

This'll be fun - thanks to all those who've posted build logs and tips.

Greg, Canberra.
