Thanks Iain,

Unfortunately, all my pics are dead - CGI server gone toes up with some style. It's looking unlikely to be fixed before the end of the weekend. Ho hum.

Beginning to look a bit like a Skylark now.........

...

...

I have to say the cruciform adapter pieces CW uses on his jig seem to me to be a much better way of doing it. A definite upgrade - I'll be giving that a try out on the next one.

One other thing I might mention, never having been a fan of steam bending spruce longerons, to achieve the bend around the nose on the Skylark in 6mm square, I have spliced in the front section using two pieces of 6 x 3 - you have to do the splice anyway. Just glue the two pieces of 6 x 3 together only over the length of the splice - cut the chamfers and splice together. Just before wrapping the longeron around the nose, apply the glue all along the joint and insert the two pieces together into the cutouts in each former. They will bend around very easily and once the glue has set will remain stable in that shape.

Lovely sharp, clean work as always Robbie.

Is that closed loop bellcrank printed circuit board with copper on both faces?

Just on the one side Rog, never felt the need for the double sided stuff. Not to mention, it comes free out of the scrap bin.

It's great stuff for all sorts of applications but it eats drills and band saw blades!

Thanks for the comments chaps - it's my brain I need to sharpen up a bit. After one of those 'cold light of dawn' experiences I tried to wrap a piece of 0.4mm ply around the fuz and up the fairing behind the wing to find it won't go! The transition from the eliptical shape of the fuz to the fairing has to negotiate curves in two directions at once - which as we all know, in a sheet of plywood just aint going to happen without it being molded in some way. The full size 3's do it but I just can't see how. A couple of guys I've spoken to who are in the know in these matters aren't aware of anything special in that area - the only molded bits on the Skylark are the plastic bits up the front and the tailplane fairing - I think?

If I can't work it out the bottom line is always a small and fairly easy mod to the formers concerned and just block and carve it out of balsa.

I hear DevCad calling Me..eee...eee.

Just can't resist a challenge, that's my trouble.........

I think balsa block could be the only answer Robbie, although I believe Slingsby did somehow achieve it in ply... see photos (which I've just remembered is a Skylark 2, but basically same fuz).

Happy sanding.

Rog,

That is the business!

Of all the photies I have of Skylarks there are none that show that fairing as well as that and the lighting in yours illustrates the point beautifully.

Looks like block and sand it is..........and I've already been in trouble once this week for dust related matters.............!!

Delighted to help, Robbie.

If there's any other bits you'd like photos of, just ask, I may have them already and if not I can pop up to the club in 10 minutes.

By the way a lovely young chap owns this particular Skylark 2 - I think he was given it by a retiring pilot and re-furbed it himself, and he gets so much fun from it you wouldn't believe.  It's what flying should be all about. Smiley

Here's another piccie...

Cheers,
Rog
