Roof box build

Post by roo Hawkins » 10 Jan 2017, 09:37

I have put some of these pictures on my dg800 thread but I thought it would be good to start a separate thread . a few members in the past have asked in the past about car roof box's so this may help?. I was looking for a box for my dg 800 has each wing panel is 3 meters long it needed to be big . the surfbox and let box's are to expensive at more than three to four times the price of my build. So I have started to make my own built from two sheets of 3.6 ply and 25x25 mm softwood from buildbase. The nose cone is polystyrene and will be glassed with epoxy I have left over. The cost so far is £40 . a lot cheaper than £1500 plus shipping . :D

Jimbo I am not sure of the weight but I think it is around 20 kg?. A friend of mine has a halfords one and he can not pick it up on his own. This one is a lot lighter and I can pick it up on my own. I have a sit on kayak that needs two people to lift it on to a car this box I can easily lift .
