Mark, yours looks great! Here’s some more progress shots, from late April and into May, planking, shaping, lots of pins. I used a deburring tool after trimming the joiner tubes to final length. It’s a cheap and simple tool, but once you’ve used one you’ll wonder how you lived without it! I buried as much lead in the nose plug as I could around the tow release. Not nearly enough, but a good start.

Next batch, from June: Shaping leading edges with a little block plane, The sanded fuse with test-covered rudder, then fitting wing root blocking, and some glass work after sanding.

Okay, here’s a cool method for hinge slotting- I ground down a blade for my Fein multi-sander, which has saved many a furniture or cabinet job in its life. An angled block of maple trimmed to just the right height makes a stable and repeatable guide for the blade, and voila! Perfectly angled (almost perfectly!) slots ready for hinges! The full length of the hinges actually poked out the other side, but were easily trimmed flush for gluing after the covering went on.
