Middle Wallop June 15 / 16th Access arrangements

Post by john greenfield » 29 May 2019, 08:40

All
Following the trial revised access arrangements for the May event, access for the June event will also be via Crash Gate 3 which is on the East side of the airfield BUT with a revised entry procedure (see below).
No entry or exit will be available via the museum gate as in previous years.

Please see the attached map for directions to Crash gate 3.

Access from the North via the Stockbridge Road is easier than coming in from the south via the village. Turn West up the gravel track by the pumping station and it will take you to the crash gate. For our weekend the gate will be unlocked at 08.30 each day. To access the airfield open the gate to drive through but it is essential that you close it after passing through. There will not be any lock to close this time but the gate must be kept closed. Exiting the airfield will be via the same procedure.
There are 2 other events taking place on the airfield at the same time as our event, SAM 35 in their usual place to the North and the MW club in their normal position so there will be other modellers using the crash gate but we must stress the importance of closing the gate after you have passed through.
The one advantage of these new arrangements is that we can continue flying until 19.00 on Sat rather than have to leave the airfield early as in the past. Sunday flying will be until 17.00
Please do not attempt to try to access the airfield before 08.30 each day as overnight, the airfield security will lock the gate and will not reopen it until 08.30 the following day. There is really nowhere to park outside the crash gate and the access road is only one car wide so if you arrive before 08.30 please find somewhere else (museum car park ?) to park up and wait.
It is essential that we all take great efforts to make these new access arrangements work to ensure the continuing ability for us to enjoy the fantastic site that MW affords us.
If anyone knows someone who would like to attend but is not a regular subscriber to SSUK please pass this message on.

I do hope a few more pilots will attend the June meeting as the low numbers attending the May event have put the future of gliding events at MW at risk. If we do not get sufficient pilots attending to cover costs, events at MW will end.

See you all on 15 / 16th June ?

One other thing about the gates.
When you open them, they are held open by a latch near the post. It's a big red thing, you cannot miss it.

Please make sure that you lift the latch before you pull the gate closed, or it will pull the latch out of position, and then it makes keeping the gate open very difficult.

Thanks for your help.

All

This is a last reminder about the revised access arrangements for the next MW on 15/16 June (see post above). We hope to see as many as possible of you at the event.
The Ghost Squadron are off today to set up the Cheddar flying camp which starts tomorrow. If any of you fancy some pre MW gliding, or any other type of flying, you are very welcome to join us. Details of the Cheddar camp are available here.
