Time to write to your MP/CAA

Post by Nigel Argall »

Notwithstanding the petition idea below, many of you will have already seen the latest missive from the BMFA out today - if not, read the link here:

https://bmfa.org/News/News-Page/Article ... SE-ACT-NOW

It is clear from the exasperated tone that the BMFA have finally (and understandably) lost patience. To summarise, after two years of patient and reasonable negotiation, the CAA/dept of Transport seem to have binned much of the process and seem determined to do their own thing. The fact that we are threatened with a more onerous registration scheme than some forms of full size aviation seems to confirm that this is being driven by the 'Gatwick' style drone threat. All this would have been bad enough if the scheme was going to work but given that you can still go into a high street store and buy a drone without any inkling that you might have to register as a user in the future, or even that you might be engaging with aviation law, beggars belief. It is like expecting criminal gangs to start registering their firearms.
The BMFA seem to make some good suggestions so let's get writing. Keep it polite and reasonable and remember it is the PROCESS we are complaining about (see the article), not the principle of registration which I think we have to accept is going to happen.
