Dolls for pilots.

Post by Cliff Evans »

Have found some dolls suitable for pilots on eBay. All of them female but who really cares! reasonable prices are the main thing. They will need someone to make some clothes for them. I ordered 1 1/3 scale and 2 1/4 scale. Have 3d printed a head for the 1/3 scale as the head supplied is not suitable, just started to paint the head.
All dolls are fully jointed.

Ebay links.
1/3 scale: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-3-Jointed- ... %7Ciid%3A1

1/4 scale: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-4-BJD-Smar ... 1438.l2649

1/3 scale doll is 21 inch tall

Cliff

Anything for 1/5th scale ?

I have a pilot for the Spalinger S18-2 (3 metre), but, he seems to be hiding in a cupboard somewhere...(must be pre-flight nerves !).

Cheers,
Dave

The (Ball Jointed Doll) BJD range appears to generally cover 1/3, 1/4, 1/6 & 1/8 scales, with some 1/2 scale also around.
The smaller end also seem to often represent youth/children, noting that these dolls are commonly used by fashion collectors/modellers. The table below gives a sense of standard sizes available. (Table columns joined, but I’m sure you get the idea).

Most common sizes
Acronym Stands for. Scale Size
SD Super Dollfie 1:3 50 cm - 70 cm
MSD Mini Super Dollfie 1:4 35 cm - 50 cm
YoSD Young Super Dollfie 1:6 20 cm - 35 cm
Lati Lati Yellow 1:8 14 cm - 20 cm
Puki Fairyland Pukipuki 1:12 9 cm - 14 cm

As Peter has discovered, the sizes available are listed in his post below. 1/6th seems to be the closest to your requirements https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-6-Scale-BJ ... Swi3Rc6Kqm

Dave if you can find one then Action Men are 1/5th scale. They are quite heavy, so fit one before you add the church roof.

Thanks both - my son had an Action Man (military-style) set but goodness knows where it is now.....I'll lookout for another though and watch out for the new CG !

I suppose as full-size humans come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, the actual scale may not matter all that much as long as it fits the cockpit and "looks right".
