PT ASW20 & Pik20 CG suggestions please
Morning all,
I've acquired a pair of PT gliders, an ASW20 (~4.8m) and a PIK 20 (~4m) and am in need of recommendations for CG please.
There's weight upfront and they have previously been flown but no indications as to where they balanced it or if they are still in spec/range. (and they came sans Rx and flight battery so will shift anyway with my fitout)
Many thanks,
Marc

Thanks Cliff!
Do you know if those are "the original" or are based on user experience? Have they been adapted for the "modern" wings you supply etc?
Cheers,
Marc

Based on the original. CG will not change noticably with new wings.

Marc, sorry about this nostalgia from the '80s, but the original PT gliders were highly popular in our flying group. The ASW20L and the PIK20D were the best of the bunch. Regards John.

Fab to hear! I'm looking forward to flying them.John Vella wrote: ↑31 Aug 2020, 09:09 Marc, sorry about this nostalgia from the '80s, but the original PT gliders were highly popular in our flying group. The ASW20L and the PIK20D were the best of the bunch. Regards John.
Pretty sure they are old school originals. The ASW is in pretty good shape, a little yellowed from age in places, but straight. The PIK has had a few repairs, at the tatty end of flyable and is possibly even old than the ASW: its got bell cranks for the ailerons an odd Y shape / fork arrangement for the flaps! Never seen anything like it...
I've now re-balanced them and they have come out at 5.3Kg and 4.725Kg (no retracts etc), so the ASW is at the light end for Cliff's brochure weights, the Pik 250g heavier (makes sense given the repairs!)
Marc
Bench flights for both...

Looking at the flap drive arrangement it is how the Soaron Sailplanes version of the PIC 20
is shown on their plan. Roy Garner produced his version as a glass fuselage and foam wing kit in the early 80's so yours could well be one.
The CG shown on this plan is 70mm from the leading edge.
I am at present finishing mine, and have the original plan if you need any further info.

Intriguing! Yes please, would be good to confirm and set the correct CG!
Any other identifiers you can think of?
..
..
... and the follow on question:
Do I leave it "as-is" for "historical accuracy" or fit servos in the wings to make rigging a straightforward process (currently there are 4 ball joints to pop on/off in addition to lining up the y forks) as a winter project?
