Laser cutting

Post by barrieburton34 »

I suspect this question will be answered by Cliff.I have been building model aeroplanes for over 70 years, but I have never built from a laser cut plan pack, untill now.I am building an electric scale model for a fellow club member,it gives me something to do and it will not have to go in my shed when finished.A plan pack was supplied along with all the other materials needed.I have 3 questions relating to the laser cutting.

1) can the width of the cut be changed during manufacture? the cut is beautifully accurate and clean, but it is so fine that it is impossible to put a razer saw or blade through the slot to cut the holding tags, the only option is to break the item away and hope not to split the wood
2) what is the max thickness of balsa that you could cut through ?
3) would it be usual for all the parts to be identified,or is that a function of the original plan?

Thank you

Barrie

1) The width of the cut is not adjustable. I always cut the parts so that they drop out of the sheet then pack them like that.

2) I can cut up to about 3/4" in a single cut, up to quite a lot more if I do a multi pass cut.
You can see what I mean by looking here! viewtopic.php?f=12&t=3341&start=10

3)I label all parts when cutting, it is very simple to engrave the part number as you go.

Hope this helps
