Link for auction of kit to go to Geoff Pearce's charity

Post by Cliff Evans »

In his life, Geoff was an avid supporter of Marie Curie.

Thanks to the kind donation from Terry White we are auctioning a Short Kit from the Cliff Charlesworth range.

ONE MORE DAY TO GO. before one lucky bidder wins this auction of a Cliff Charlesworth ASK18 superbly kitted by our own Cliff Evens. I first saw this model fly by Cliff Charlesworth some thirty years ago or more during an old style competition we held on Butser hill in Hampshire. He was given a bad launch by a novice who threw the model skyward with no speed where it immediately stalled and come back down again. As part of the comp team I gave Cliff a hand to repair his model for his next flight. During this repair and having seen the model close up I badgered Cliff to send me the plan and cockpit bubble when he returned home which he did. Over the coming months I toiled and built the fuselage first. I always start with the fuselage I don't know why. It was later in the year that I found myself in competition on White-sheet. run by the club of the same name. I had launched in readiness for my competition flight and was holding off to the right while another flyer whos name escapes me was in the middle of his monuvers. Suddenly the lift diminished and we found ourselves scraping for lift in the same airspace. I should have given him the air as he was already in competition flight but sadly I didn't and the inevitable happened and we both watched as our models came fluttering down. I had been flying one of Pats Vegas which didn't come off too bad but this guy had been flying 'guess what' that's right a Cliffs ASK18. Coo I said "that WAS a very nice model". No I didn't I am not that cruel. The wings were untouched but the fus had rekitted itself. He was understandably upset. To cut the story short I made him a present of my fus which was nearly finished. He was very grateful however it was only fair under the circumstances. I never did finish this lovely model from Cliff. It is something that I regret to this day and is why I am putting this ASK18 up for auction in the memory of our good flying friend Geoff. He had many years of treatment for his cancer on the NHS and help from Marie Curie. He could not speak highly enough of these charities. His wife Linda requested no flowers at the funeral but instead a donation to his charities hence the auction. Go on have a go, a chance to get an ASK18 at low, low price and do good at the same time but if we ever fly on the same hill together I might want a go! Kind regards to you all Terry White.

The ASK18 kit is now in the safe hands of Mr Dave Camp. He informs me it should be completed and maidened by 1st next month. How about us all meeting up at the top of White Sheet for its 1st launch of the season.
