Balsa prices.

Latest statement from SlecUK

MARCH BALSA UPDATE 2021

MARCH 2021

Just received our first container in 6 months from our new PNG supplier. The quality looks good, but unfortunately the price is up more than expected due to freight charges. World shipping is in disarray at the moment due to COVID, with boats and containers in the wrong parts of the world, in fact our container was delayed three weeks because it couldn’t dock at Felixstowe and carried on to Rotterdam to wait for a boat to bring it back to the UK, for this reason the shipping company’s have added a charge called Emergency Export Surcharge at 10000 USD per 40ft container and increased our Ocean freight by about 7000 USD. This has increased Balsa by about 90% Hopefully when they get the Port problems fixed and the Surcharge will be cancelled and the Ocean freight reduced to a more reasonable level. There are still lumber supply problems in PNG due to demand and lack of resource. I think delays will be a problem for the next 12 months or so. The good news is, they are cutting younger trees down which will give us much lighter wood.

Unfortunately the Indonesian Balsa connection didn’t work because they fail to supply after taking your money.
