That was the build thread that was...

Post by chris williams »

For anyone looking for any of my old build threads on the old forum (including those related to the free plans like the Minimoa MO2a) it seems that they have now all disappeared. A shame, but a useful reminder that nothing is permanent :( :( :(

That's not good.
They were a useful reference for us mere mortals that only build one model a year!
Hopefully the administrators can recover them from the backups. To be honest, it would be nice to have all the data from the old website transferred to this one and placed in an archive section.

Whilst it's not as big a shame as losing Chris's build threads, I notice that my 40% ASG29 scratch build thread has gone too which is a shame (for me at least) as it represented 800 hours of my life that I won't get back!

A slight silver lining... I did put a build log for the Spalinger S25 (free plan) up on Retroplane:

But then you will have all the photos, and copies (You did keep copies??) of all the posts you made, so you could put it all back here.

Alternatively, just build another one.

:D :D :D :D

Very flippant Mr Cole! Re: Swarrans post

There was a great deal of good stuff on the old forum that some people took a lot of effort to write. Not for their own benefit but for all members who should need to refer to it as a reference, or in answer to a request for help.
It should be remembered that of the 400 + members only a hand full will add pen to the forum, and of these only a very small percentage will bother to write a fairly long article. As for Build threads with photographs etc. your down to just a hand full.
I would suggest that many members, if they thought that their efforts would be lost in time, wouldn't bother at all.

I completely agree with Martin G, It is now time the forum had a proper Archive for all the tips and expert advice that is written here.
For an instance among other things I once wrote a long spill on how to mold a fuselage all in one, wet on wet without the need to use joining tape.
You yourself recently wrote about how one could check a receivers range, and along with Antonia's superb advise on wing repairs which would have took an age to prepare and post.
All good stuff for future use by someone, but where would someone be able to find those writings now?
What if a someone didn't necessary know what he/she was looking for but just wanted to browse the forum for expert advise on a particular subject.!

It would be great if the administrators could find a way to do this, with its own box and a front index to help find a particular subject.
I am the first to say that I wouldn't have the know-how on how one would start to do this or if it is at all possible. However a members discussion on the subject would be well worth while.

I wouldn't like it thought that I am belittling the work that the administrators do. I am not. I believe they do a grand job, and all for free. I for one would like to thank them for what we do currently have. It is because of my passion for the forum that I have taken this time to put my feelings in writing.

However I am very saddened if we have lost C.W. plans and build logs along with the other specialist advice.

Perhaps Barry you can come back to us with what exactly the current position is. Regards Terry.

Barry,
I see that my Cliff Charlesworth Olympia build thread is still pretty much intact on the old forum (complete with photos) whereas the photos have been largely deleted elsewhere.
Is it possible for this build thread to be moved across before it disappears?
