Not gliding but maybe a tug

Post by VinceC »

My son has purchased a new powered aeroplane, not a model but a real Ryan STM S2 from 1937. It was brought over from America, having had a life in Australia and was given a full restoration and looks absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately I have not set my eyes on it as yet, because due to engine problems on its delivery flight to Guernsey it had to return to the UK where upon landing the supercharger blew up, so back to the workshops.

I have attached photos of my son flying it and a pdf of the history of the plane. More on the Ryans in Australia can be found here:-

Unfortunately it only has one seat :( :( Any tug guys interested? :D

Absolutely gorgeous Vince and definitely not a tug. A tug is traditionally ugly as sin, black and yellow in colour and trailing a length of orange line with a pair of black knickers attached.

We don't like knickers, especially on the end of tow lines. VERY bad taste.

Sorry gentlemen, I stand corrected and chastened. I future I will refer instead to "items of skimpy, black, feminine undergarments"!
However the aeroplane is still gorgeous.

A few years ago my son printed out a drawing for me at his office which I have created for an upcoming book. It is of the Messerschmitt M23c and he was quite interested in it at the time. I wonder if that subconsciously affected his choice of aircraft as there is quite a similarity in style. I have attached the English pdf version of the drawing and a few photos
