Remarkable 360º video of a Kookabura

Post by VinceC »

This is a remarkable film, shot in 360º video of a Kookabura in flight. What is amazing is that, using your mouse, you can scroll left, right, up and down whilst all the time, despite the glider bouncing around, the horizon stays level and in one place.

That's some camera, and a very sophisticated mount...

John, low tow is the standard position in the Antipodies. You can't kill a tow pilot from that position . I found you soon got used to flying looking at the wheels of the tow plane. Regards John.

And here's a challenge for anybody with plenty of spare time: where does the tow plane go after 3:50?

I think by chance it must fly off along the axis of the port wing.... cos I never saw it again.

Hang on, where is the camera mount?- seems to be hanging in mid air. I know I'm a technical numpty but how do they do that??

One of my biking mates has one.
Its a 3 lens camera which combines the 3 images to give the spherical ability.
He has it on a 1m selfy stick attached to the bike and the specialist software edits out the mount/stick and looks like the camera is hovering around his bike with all the background images passing by. Really clever stuff.

What a fantastic video. Is there someone who can explain how the auto stabalisation ignores the primary subject, the glider, while making an excellent job of the horizon?
