Fortunately I was able to fly my lunak at Rhossili this week. The weather was kind, day 1 was lighter 15mph, lots of paras to avoid. The lunak flew well, gain height, perform aeros, gain height etc. Day 2, very light 4mph, meant I dare not risk it, day 3 the creamiest strongest lift 25 to 30mph, dropping to 22 in the evening. Here she came alive, covering the skies at great speed, aeros were huge continuous and flowing. The skies had clouded just enough to allow the light to be interesting and allow a fabulous Rhossili sunset to shimmer across the sea. Rhossili is a very special place.

Hi there, i have flown it in 14mph, but ive found it comes alive at 25-30mph. At 40mph it becomes a bit of a bum clunching experience, tbh the airframe flexs a little too much at that speed. As you can see when i push the wings do bend rather a lot (see pic wings are usually straight)

Re: Scale at the Slope Vids

Thanks ray, its always interesting to put a cam on a wingtip, you can see the model gets a real beating, look at the wing flex, and that was not pushing at all!

Had the trusty ASW20 as a spec in the sky this evening, was a superb evening, two superb 30min flights cruising from coastguards down to Chapel porth and back about 1/2mile walk, just a few walkers and some birds, with a gentle flypasts and a slow easy landing :)

True but it is a hike up, St agnes has its plus points, if not maximum lift or height.

Today, light airs, fab weather, a relaxing cruise from coastguards to tubbies with the 20, and back, just how i like it :)

Today was a rather good day. Had a quick blast around with the L213a, a stunning bird, then i got to try my Fox. Now as you may know on other threads this exhibited occasional rudder flutter, when i really pushed on. To cut a long story short, Terry and I had a bit of a chat he agreed to upgrade my rudder, to the same design as used on his big foxes he made for Purbeck Sailplanes. So we met up and Terry worked his magic. Anyway, i took it to the slope today, and gave it a good bashing, and here is a report. The rudder now has real bite to it, has more movement and is solid. And the flutter appears to be gone. It was pretty windy 25-30 and I did some big swoops from altitude and pumps, thru the high compression band, some lovely crisp 4 and 8 pt rolls, i didnt really cane it, but i did give it more than i usually do, as later in the flight the confidence returned, and i started flying it hard. Hope to have many more flights probing its now superior performance. I can post some pictures if anyone is interested.
Thanks Terry.
Jimbo.

Hi Jumbo.
Enjoying the videos and photos. Only slightly envious of you having Aggy as your local. Any chance of some photos and video of Terry 's rudder mods please. My S2g Fox is going to need some treatment in this dept. The current closed loop, servo in the front thing is a disaster waiting to happen. I plan to fly it like I stole it, so it will need to be right.

Re: Scale at the Slope Vids

Posted: 16 Nov 2016, 06:52
by jimbo
My fox fluttered quite severely on a number of occasions, and it got to the point I couldnt fly it as I wanted. Since the mod its transformed, the tail is now very responsive and no flutter and I've been giving it some.
Terry can advise on the details, but in layman's term the rudder is on a tray under the rudder. There are some pictures info on his fox build video on the build thread if I recall.

Best of Compilation, it was a good year, so its long, 22 mins. So get a comfy chair and a cuppa, enjoy!

Plenty of scale, a brace of foxes, asw20, lunak, dg600, ash26, 3x L213s including a 1/3, a good year!
