Ross Stephens RS-1 Zanonia

Post by VinceC »

I was asked recently if I would create a 3-view for an unusual American glider. After quite a bit of research I was able to create this and hope it will be useful to someone. It was quite a small high performance glider, which had a high cruise speed compared to other gliders of the time and was very successful in competition. There was only one example built, which is now in the National Soaring Museum at Elmira. I will create a web page at some stage, but in the meantime I have attached jpeg versions of the pdf pages, but if you want the scaleable pdf, go to this link:

p.s. It would seem the drawings loose a lot when shrunk, better to download the pdf

Thanks Chris, the forum didn't like the space in the title so I fixed it manually.

Out of interest, when I made the drawing, I referred to 3 other 3-views and all of them, when overlaid, were absolutely identical. This meant that unfortunately they all had the same errors or was it just me? I had everything confirmed with much help from the National Soaring Museum and the American vintage magazine Bungee Cord. Mine is also the only drawing created in imperial measure which the glider was designed in and this again showed many flaws in the originals.

Maybe an American cousin for the Wolf ? ? Which is on my 'short' (build) list.

No, cannot get hold of the person that was designing it!
