Had a days flying in a 28 a lot of years ago as P2 - the take-off and landing runs were like being in a biscuit tin as a consequence of its all metal construction - nice to fly though.

Terry Holland has decided to hang up his scalpel and retire from building models.

Over the years Terry has built many unusual models and not being a flyer himself, has sold them on to the community. His last model is a build from my plan, but reduced in scale, of the Karakan, which he has donated to the Gliding Heritage Centre at Lasham as a display model. I have enjoyed helping Terry over the years with information for his models and I will be sad to see his departure and wish him all the best for the future.

Dale Nichols from Oz, reports a successful maiden flight for his Spatz...

Hello Chris,

you beat me to the posting of pictures from the successful maiden on the weekend at our annual Cobram Aerotow on the Melbourne Cup Weekend.

The Spatz flew beautifully straight off the tow with just minor trim. Handling is very benign and the model sits just right in the air.
Built as per the plan in all respects, a relatively easy build and great flying performance.
The finish is Koverall on the fuselage with two pack creme finish, wings are Oracover fabric, blue trim is from a rattle can.

The maiden flight of the 1/5 scale Dart 17 has happened rather sooner than I had expected. This morning dawned bright and sunny with the promise of a breeze from the East. I was up on my favourite East facing slope by 9.30 and the wind was 6mph to max 9mph straight on the slope.
The Dart flew straight out with just a touch of down trim. In total I had four short flights during which I increased the aileron differential to 70% and rudder/aileron mix to 30% . The stall brings with it a wing tip drop but it is very predictable and safe and the landings are very easy with the big brakes.
It will take a couple more trimming sessions before I have the model flying exactly as I want but it is not too far away.
I have attached three photos including two in the air. I apologise for the poor quality as they were taken with my phone while I was trying to fly the model.
