It measures the air speed by sensing the increased air pressure via the air speed indicator

I wonder why 2 tubes?
Looking closely one has a square tip ( open tube? ) and the other a rounded tip ( perhaps closed with small openings in the side for static pressure reference? )
I recognize the black 2 tube one as similar to the real Slingsby Petrel.

the open tube is for the dynamic pressure to operate the speedometer
The closed tube has litte hole in the side to measure the static pressure for altitude
The bigger tube on top is a Venturi an early way to compensate the vario to prevent false lift or sink indications.
All old hat now. with the electronic vario's they use a TEK tube now I think it is called
