Top-Rippen LS3 stab mounting

Post by Cain »

Hello again Glider Guiders

I am embarking on the build of another new (but old) kit.

Again no instructions and I have come unstuck fixing the stab on the fin. There are dotted lines drawn on the stab ..

.and I originally thought they may show where to put the servo, but on excavation there is a solid block inside, most likely now to drill through to put the mounting screws.

So 2 questions, where does the stab sit?

And where does the elevator servo sit, It may be best recessed in the fin, does anyone have experience with a servo in the fin with this type of arrangement.

Many thanks in advance. Cain

Ps I have written to Topp-Rippen to see if they can help too

Cain,
If the fin is wide enough to take a small servo, this is a good way to get a solid elevator linkage as shown in the attached picture of my installation in a 1/4 scale PIK20 fin.
The tailplane position should ideally be in the scale position.
Also attached pics of LS3 tail arrangement taken from a Martin Simon’s 3view drawing showing tailplane position.

Peters way is a good way to mount the servo but the way I use if I can is to cut a hole in the stab and glass it with glass cloth and epoxy and
Mount the servo in the hole in the stab then you only have to plug in the servo wire when you go flying no messing about with the link.
