Slingsby Kirby Gull plan

Post by VinceC »

I have a free plan for the Gull which needs a builder to prove it.

It is a 1:3 scale model with a wingspan of 5 meters and can be built with or without struts

Laser cut parts are available from Cliff Evans

Anyone interested

Hi Vince, I have been building the Slingsby Gull from the Jim Owen plan, reduced from 1/3 to 1/3.5. Should be finished by the middle of next month, I did change the shape of the formers to conform better with Martin Simons's cross sections.

I agree with Cliff about concerns over Martin Simons 3-views, although I highly respect all of his work.

As regards the sections, Our new drawing uses data gathered from the original factory drawings. I am quite happy to send you our drawings along with the factory drawings we have, although I feel it may be too late.

Thanks for the offer, Vince, but I'm afraid it is too late! I've just printed the Jim Owen Rhonbussard, are his formers more accurate than what M.S. has on his drawing?

I cannot confirm them, but here is a 3-view for comparison

Thanks Vince, the 3 view confirms that the fus has the semicircular top, sharp bottom as per M S's drawing. The free plan has then somewhat different.
