No, I left it in place, as this is an area at high risk if a wingtip catches in an obstacle or should you suffer the indignity of flipping upside down when landing too fast... (Gap here for BC to comment...........................................................)

With the underside of the gull join closed up, it's now time to move on to the ailerons...

The false aileron LE is cut slightly oversize and then hinged up to the wing...

That's to prevent the dowel from splitting when it's drilled out for the hinge, Martyn...

The aileron false LE is marked out again, trimmed and sanded flush to the wing...

The TE is carefully set up at each end: the root end is defined by the wing TE, and the tip end by the jigging support
