Hi all
If you had a 4.5m glider similar to a DG or VENTUS but wanted a "forgiving" wing section - thermal type - ( scratch build foam wing ) for a person with a good amount of slope, 2m thermal glider and lots of propeller power experience, what section would you choose?

Re: WING SECTION ?
You'll probably get lots of opinions Wayne (and it depends exactly what sort of flying you want to do) but I don't think you'll go too far wrong with an HQ section of some description - say an HQ35xx

Re: WING SECTION ?
I agree with Simon.
The HQ sections are very reliable & have the added benefit of not needing any washout to be built into the wing.
Chris Williams tends to use them on most, if not all, of his glider designs these days.

Re: WING SECTION ?
Make that 30 years...! The HQ35/12 section, was, as far as I remember, designed by Dr Quabeck specifically for scale models. You can thicken up the root section as much as you like for scale fidelity, and even without washout, relatively high angles of attack can be achieved without dropping a wing.
(I have noticed that this benefit increases the lower the aspect ratio of the wing.)
