Mylar sheet thickness

Post by MDev »

What thickness is best for use in sealing control surface gaps on 1/3 scale?

Any favoured suppliers?

Plenty of lightweight Mylar around and places to buy but no 800-1000 micron Mylar, where do you purchase yours?

I've tried the model shops here and europe, ebay sells up to 350 micron but nowhere sells .8 to 1mm thick (800 to 1000 micron) that I can find.

Any other suggestions?

Look up Ideal Stencils on Amazon, the best thickness is 125 micron. 2m x 300 mm is about £12. It sounds very thin built when stuck on your wing with double sided tape it is stiff enough and flexible enough without straining your servo.

I ordered a sheet of 250 micron which is .25mm thinking it would be thin enough, but when it is attached to the wing it was putting quite a bit if strain on the servo. I now use 125 micron which is perfect. I can send you a,sample of each Cliff...

I have measured the film that I have been using for some time, it's 190 micron, stiff enough not to flutter when going fast ( 100 +mph) , but not putting extra strain on the flap servo when going down 80deg
