Electric Tug

Post by Phill Tadman »

Hi all,

I’ve been thinking of getting an electric tug kit.

I quite like the Topmodel Bidule 55 (2.46m span) and the Airworld Wilga (2.2m span) both with about a 4kW motor setup.

Has anyone had any experience with these models?

Thanks,

Phill

Other options might be:

https://www.topmodel.fr/en/product-deta ... -laser-kit

https://www.cnc-hagershop.de/produkt/ec ... kfahrwerk/

The Eco Boomster seems to be well-received. And of course there is always the Ampley (Electric Greenly)

Thanks Simon, I’ll look into those.

Also any thoughts on the nose wheel/trike configuration for the Bidule compared to a tail dragger?

Thanks,

Phill

In my limited experience with them, stearable nose wheels are a PiTA

The Bidule has a very robust nosewheel (and is generally a robust model), and is a very popular tug on the continent, so it’s a pretty safe choice. I would still tend to gravitate to taildraggers though. I like the Topmodel stuff - My Porter tug is from Topmodel and is coming up to 12 years old with many tows and hours of flying.

Phil, I had an airworld Wiggler, lovely model but a bit small really, maximum 45cc, I fitted a 58cc MVVS in mine which was way over the top and she torque rolled badly at full throttle.

I'd tend toward a taildragger just because you can get your landings wrong with less consequence, however I am rebuilding a 1:3 monsun which has a trike and I'm doing that because I love the plane, and it makes me fly better (well the 1:4 scale version does, haven't fixed the 1:3 to fly it yet).

Ell.
