Hi All,
Well I am still plodding on with my Old Gliders Petrel and have just noticed a problem with the supplied glass fibre wing joiner rods - every time I pick one up I get bits of glass in my fingers! Is there a way to somehow seal them (Paint or whatever)?
Thanks,
Ken

You should not be getting bits of glass from the rod at all. Do you know what size the rods are? I would replace them.

Re: Glass fibre wing joiner rods
Hi Cliff,
The rods are 13.8mm dia and 700mm long.
It is such a pain that whenever you touch them you can feel minute fibres in your fingers.
I was wondering if it would be worth putting carbon fibre ones in. However, when I bought some CF rod for my 3.5m Bergfalke, they seemed more bendy than the steel originals.
Many thanks,
Ken

I'm not too fond of carbon rods, they tend to splinter. You can get GRP rods from Carbon Fibre Profiles, but, not at that size. Their rods are really smooth. I use them and make tubes to fit for all of my kits that use a rod joiner. You could return to Old Gliders and ask him if he can help. Don't hold your breath though!

As that is basically 14mm, Fighteraces sell 14mm Ally joiner tubes.

Ken,
I had the same issue with my komar from old gliders.
I gave the rod a thorough waxing with bees wax and removed the excess with a dry cloth till it was clean. Now its lovely and smooth .
