Canopy paint

Post by Elliot Howells »

Anyone got a primer recommendation ?

I’ve used a plastic etch primer but it’s not really adhered very well.

TIA.

Hi Ell,
I just use rattle-can acrylic spray (primer, then topcoat). For me, the key  to good paint adhesion is to mask the area then lightly abrade it with 400 wet and dry before squirting primer. Just enough to get a matt finish. I also degrease with a little washing up liquid.
Hope this helps.

I use shower gel personally Rog, but what do you put on the canopy?

Thanks Rog,

I was assuming the etching primer would do the hard work itself! I have scuffed them up in the past, it just seems a little daft after you've taken such trouble to mask accurately.

Having some success with plasticote on gelcoat fuz's...
