Pat teakle vega fes mod
Hi I thought I would start a post on my vega modification. I myself like a glider as a glider but wanted a scale glider that can be flown from the flat. but can be converted back to a scale glider for most of the time. Also l wanted it so you did not know that it was converted. It may have been done before? ?.l cut the nose off fitted a motor and prop the off cut nose has a tube to fit the shaft of the motor glassed in this then is fitted on and taped back on when I want it has a glider and you can see no modifications.

Hi Roo, you are right it has been done many times before. However nice to see in in pic's though and should inspire those with a like mind. What motor / Esc/ prop combination have you chosen? Ter.

Hi terry the motor is a xyk 42-60 500kv I think it was given to me by a mate some years ago. The esc is a hobbywing 80amp plus a 5 cell 4000 lipo.

Roo,
What size prop do you use with that?
Presumably, that allows dolly take-offs at a sedate rate, rather than hand launch zooms.

hi peter the prop is a aeronurt 15in no sure what pitch. I have not started it or done a watt test yet so do not know the watts. the motor is out of my old windex and was fitted with a 15x10 and I got about 900watts.

Re: Pat teakle vega fes mod
Roo, that sounds about right.
I see that a HK Propdrive V2 4258 500kv on 5S gives 760w @ 41A with a 15x8 or 1160w @ 62.7A on a 16x10 according to their test data.
It will be interesting to hear how it goes when you do make some measurements & commit to a test launch.

Roo,
It may be a possibility as I have a suitable motor/ESC & it could be an option to get a largish glider to RoG (using a dolly) from a nearby site with short grass/runway.
Initially looking at converting something a bit more floaty & less scale though.

Roo,
I’ve been planning to do this to my Vega for a good while now and I am just about to get around to starting it. May I ask if you built in any side/down thrust.
