Swiftly

Post by jimbo » 22 Mar 2019, 09:26

Hi, i didnt find a swift thread to update so heres one. Im currently build a 2.5M S1 by Xmodels.
Does any one have any links to cockpit resources? Im looking for binnacles, panels and seats etc. Stick on paper would probably be OK, although as its a sealed cockpit i need something that isnt going to come loose 1 year down the line etc.
Ive done most of it apart from the rudder, though the rear post is finished setting up has been somewhat tricky. Any thoughts on this part of the build? Ive put up a pic of the install so far. Ive crafted a horn for the pull pull though the rear end is undecided.
Its the FS (fast slope) version, kevlar and carbon construction, looks like it will need about 400g of lead to balance it at a guess. Flying weight is probably going to be 4kg or so. Ballast provision is 1.2kg.
Cheers, Jimbo.

Melting The Lead was a 2 min job with the plumbers blowtorches. I've since cut the block into two, first half will be glued and the second half removable to allow tweaking of CG.

Ready to maiden, weight is 4.4kgs, with 1.2kg ballast provision. Ive added some extra carbon up front a chunky ply tray and wing compression strut from carbon. I can only get 45 degrees on the crow (top hinged and would required some cutting to get more) however, so I'm thinking this bird is going to land quickly!

Pleased to say she was successfully maidened. Wind was 20 - 30 mph. First flight she was not very nice to fly as I had forgotten to add aileron expo on cruise mode. She was as twitchy as anything. 2nd flight I adjusted the expo and reduced the down throw on crow. She was dialed in nicely, quick, very snappy, and great energy retention. Fast passes were noiseless and had a great presence. I got the impression she would take the ballast on board. Auw was 4.4kg. Thanks nigel for the pics.

Cheers Nigel, thanks for the encouragement to lob it over the edge, that no land out on a maiden can be a bit of a mind hurdle, when you have ££ and time invested. Luckily no issues. Heres a vid.
