control surface shrouds

Post by IanT-White »

I am thinking about building another motor glider and unsure how to provide a shroud at the control surfaces , to maintain the airflow
If any members could provide any advice I would be most grateful, hopefully looking for something not too difficult or time consuming if thats possible ?
Thanks Ian Turney-White

Hi Ian

What sort of hinging are you proposing, top, center, or bottom hinged? I make my shrouds from thin ply.

John , thanks for your reply , thinking of top hinges , works well with lower horn, regards Ian T-W

Hi Ian, give Stan Yeo a ring at Phoenix Models in Newton Abbott or look in on his Webb site. He sells a number of ABS sheets with the shrouds already vacformed within. Not expensive and very quick to cut out and use.

Hi Terry

That sounds great. I've spent a little time on his site, but I can't find it.

The Search box comes up empty.

Cheers

Max,
They seem to be in the servos section as ‘servo covers’ ;)

Peter's correct under servo covers it is. He also sells in-wing timber servo mounts, He's a nice guy been at it years (could be my dad) Tell him I sent you, he'll charge you double. :D

Hi Guys

I think from Ian's original post that he is looking for shrouds for the control surface gap to maintain the airflow and not covers for the servos.

Ian
Depending on the gap that you want to cover I would suggest Mylar strip. For smaller gaps, this could be drafting film or for larger gaps, you can buy thicker mylar for the purpose direct from Topmodel.CZ and I am sure other places. The mylar from Topmodel comes with a double sided tape on one side for sticking it to the model.
