Post by chris williams »

A new stablemate for the 6th scale Prefect and Kite 1...

Construction commences with the steaming of the 3mm sq spruce longerons before making up the fuselage sides over the plan

Alignment plates hold the fuselage sides in the correct position. Centre lines drawn on most of the parts help for checking alignment...
Note: The Skylark 1 and the Prefect share around 80% of the same fuselage

Adding the rear alignment plates and pulling together the front end. This requires some patience, some lolly sticks and some perseverance! Curves are quickly induced into the top front longerons with repeated rubbing using the back of a Stanley knife

Time to look at the rear end...The tailplane is a simple flat plate which sits on two pieces of 5mm balsa to raise to the desired height. The elevator is similar, but requires slotted ribs to mate up with the TE

Nice work, looks like you're getting the hang of this 'small' model building.
I'm trying to hurry and finish my current projects so that by the time you're finished and published I can make a Skylark 1.

Time to start the wing centre section...The dihedral is built in over jigs under the lower spar & TE. The wing joiner box is 11mm brass for a 10mm joiner blade
