Jilles, yes I looked at the skid mount and wondered how it could be flexible.
I have two drawings of just some of those metal partrs but they do not help one to understand.
I think that the assembly is more complicted that it seems - when you look closely, there seem to be several overlapping pieces of the bracket that presumably allow some vertical movement but I have no idea how it functions ! Very strange.

The point about the hand-holds is not the weight. To lift and walk, you would have to rotate your hand until the palm faced away from your body.
Its not impossible but I imagine it rapidly becomes a strain. With the Fokker Baby and many other vintage types, the rear lift handle allows you to comfortably wrap your hand around it.

Scud 2 has many unique features - I loved the way that the all flying tailplane and rudder slide onto tubes, secured by pins, which in turn had leather straps to retain them ! Charmingly eccentric.
