Tow Rag

Well after our Ampley had an argument with the sheep feeding trough, we've decide to go a bit left field on building a replacement, a Keith Humber Towrag, plans originally published in 1987 (and I've had them almost as long), original was for a 90 Webra T4 fourstoke so our electric conversion generating almost 2KW shouldn't be underpowered.

I've still kept the fuselage which is repairable and might do a built up wing for it, it was a bit porky.

Plans for a built up Ampley wing are available as a free download from the Ghost Squadron website if you want to rebuild at sometime.

Tow Rag coming along, no big rush as long as it's ready for spring.

All we need to do now is fly it, but maybe our Ampley wasn't too porky this weighs the same 6.5kg with an 8s 5000 mah battery.

Just thought I'd wrap this thread up with a couple of photos from the flight test, on the current set up with an 18 x 10 APC prop, the motor pulls just under 50 amps on the 8s battery, around 1500 watts, performance is sprightly and it towed up Rogers Seagull 3m Pilatus with ease. Very smooth flier and as we have a 75amp ESC (limited to 8s though) we've got options to increase the power. The Towrag is a delight to fly though, looks a bit unusual :D but flies brilliantly and lands at walking pace, just what we need for our club field which is a bit tight.
